The Duchess of Sussex was given the title of “culture vulture” following the debut of With Love, Meghan Episode 1.

Meghan Markle’s latest venture, With Love, Meghan, has officially landed on Netflix, 

and within just ten minutes of the first episode, the Duchess of Sussex is already stirring the pot—literally. 

The debut episode features Meghan showcasing a unique take on an Italian classic: skillet spaghetti. However, her method has raised a few eyebrows, especially among traditionalists.

While cooking alongside her friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin, 

Meghan shares that the dish is a family favorite, regularly prepared for Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet. 

She takes an unconventional approach to the dish, pouring “three cups” of boiling water directly over the dry pasta before covering it with a lid. 

This technique, which deviates from the traditional boiling method, has sparked mixed reactions online.

Throughout the episode, Meghan reminisces about her old lifestyle blog, The Tig, where she previously shared her love for food and recipes. She claims that this skillet spaghetti recipe would have been featured on her blog had it still been active. “When I make this, I make it for my family,” she explains, adding, “Not that my children are eating heaps of noodles, but I will make enough so that I can put leftovers in their lunchbox.”

However, the dish, which she also refers to as “noodles,” has been met with skepticism from food critics and social media users alike. As Meghan assembles the meal, she places dry spaghetti on a bed of feta and cherry tomatoes before adding chard, kale, and hot water, a method that some claim could result in a sticky, starchy texture.

Reactions to Meghan’s culinary efforts have been polarizing. While some viewers praised her creativity and expressed interest in trying the dish themselves, others were less than impressed. Online commenters referred to the recipe as a “Pinterest Pot Noodle,” while another joked, “That’s not food—that’s punishment!” A few even questioned her terminology, pointing out that the pasta appeared more like linguine or fettuccine rather than spaghetti.

Royal author Hugo Vickers weighed in on the criticism, suggesting that Meghan’s cooking methods have opened her up to public scrutiny. “People will say variously, well, where do these recipes come from? We’ve seen them before,” he noted, adding, “We don’t actually get any sort of clue at the end as to what ingredients you would need if you wanted to follow any of these recipes.”

Despite the backlash, some viewers found Meghan’s cooking segments endearing and relatable. “I’m definitely going to make that pasta,” one fan wrote on social media, while another chimed in, “I always put a bit of sauce on the plate before adding pasta, too!”

Beyond her cooking endeavors, With Love, Meghan offers glimpses into her personal life, humor, and lighthearted interactions with guests. Throughout the eight-episode series, the former actress shares casual moments with celebrity friends, including Abigail Spencer and Mindy Kaling. In one memorable segment, she jokes, “My bacon brings all the boys to the yard,” while cooking breakfast, claiming that Harry and their three dogs flock to the kitchen whenever she’s frying bacon.

The show also highlights Meghan’s love for holistic and mindful living, as she gets sentimental over bees and honey, curates unusual children’s party bags featuring gardening tools and Manuka honey sticks, and embraces wellness-focused cooking. However, some critics have labeled the show as out-of-touch, with one social media user writing, “Six minutes into With Love, Meghan and it’s clear this is only for the ultra-wealthy.”

There are also moments of unintentional humor, such as when Meghan squirts juice onto herself while squeezing a blood orange, laughing off the minor mishap. Additionally, she shares nostalgic memories of her childhood, describing herself as a “latchkey kid” who grew up on fast food and TV dinners while watching Jeopardy.

As the series progresses, Meghan’s passion for entertaining takes center stage. She hosts a game night with her “Mom Squad,” featuring Mexican food, cocktails, and rounds of Mah Jongg. She even hints at a potential new project, teasing, “Maybe my next book will be Game Night Cooking.”

While With Love, Meghan has received mixed reviews, it undeniably offers a deeper look into the Duchess’s personal world—one filled with food, family, and a fair share of controversy. Whether or not her skillet spaghetti wins over culinary critics, it has certainly stirred up plenty of conversation.
