Holly Willoughby exploded with rage, slamming This Morning bosses as heartless for forcing her to miss a final farewell with a loved one before their passing. What happened?

Holly Willoughby, best known for her roles on Dancing On Ice and This Morning, has opened up about the unpredictable nature of live television.

During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the TV presenter shared some behind-the-scenes moments from her 14-year stint on This Morning,

admitting that while many things went smoothly, some moments went “horribly wrong.”

The Unpredictability of Live Television

Promoting her new Netflix series Celebrity Bear Hunt, Holly expressed her deep appreciation for live broadcasting.

She described the excitement and spontaneity that come with hosting a live show, explaining that while most segments go as planned, there is always a risk of unexpected mishaps.

“I love live telly. Live telly, I have to say, is my favorite,” Holly told host Graham Norton. “But you don’t really know what’s going to happen, and there are pitfalls, and things do go wrong.”

Having spent over a decade on This Morning, Holly experienced plenty of moments where things went exactly as intended—but also faced times when they didn’t. One particular incident stood out as a memorable blunder, which she shared with Norton’s audience.

The Meghan Trainor and Stephen Hawking Mix-Up

Recalling one of the most unfortunate moments on This Morning, Holly described an episode that featured pop singer Meghan Trainor as a guest, promoting her hit song All About That Bass. Unfortunately, the same day also marked the passing of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.

Recognizing the significance of the moment, the show’s production team quickly put together a heartfelt tribute to Hawking. Holly commended the team for handling the situation with care, explaining that they compiled a respectful montage featuring a black-and-white image of the scientist along with the years of his life.

However, live television can sometimes lead to unintended errors. Just as the tribute aired, a sound technician accidentally played Meghan Trainor’s upbeat track All About That Bass over the emotional montage.

“This is where live telly can be dangerous because the sound guy pushed the wrong button and played Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass over the top,” Holly recalled, laughing at the unfortunate timing of the mix-up.

Despite the awkwardness of the situation, Holly lightheartedly speculated that Stephen Hawking might have appreciated the moment. She shared a personal memory of meeting him at a party, where she had the opportunity to get a glimpse of his sense of humor.

A Party with Stephen Hawking

In a surprising anecdote, Holly revealed that she once had the chance to meet Stephen Hawking at an event with comedian Alan Carr. Describing the encounter as unforgettable, she recounted how they ended up doing shots together, an experience that left a lasting impression on her.

“I was very lucky enough to meet him one time…and we went to a party, and we did shots with him. It was quite wild. I feel like he would have quite liked that,” she shared.

A Career Defined by Live TV Challenges

Holly Willoughby’s experience with live television has certainly come with its fair share of challenges, but she remains one of the most beloved and experienced presenters in the industry. Whether handling celebrity interviews, unexpected technical blunders, or emotional moments, she has proven her ability to navigate the unpredictable nature of live broadcasting.

As she continues her career with new projects like Celebrity Bear Hunt, Holly’s reflections on her time at This Morning serve as a reminder that even seasoned presenters face their fair share of unexpected hiccups on live TV. But as she demonstrated with her amusing recollections, sometimes those moments become the most memorable.
